Sekmai rally against inclusion in Sadar Hills

Objecting to inclusion of any part of Sekmai, which is currently under Imphal West, in the proposed formation of Sadar Hills district, a large number of people took out a rally today.
Organised under the aegis of Land Protection Committee, Sekmai Kendra, more than 1000 people from 10 villagers under Sekmai Assembly Constituency participated in the rally which was taken out from Phayeng Lamkhai to Sekmai Bazar.
At Sekmai Bazar, police stopped the rallyists from proceeding further but the rallyists were seen trying to break the police barricade leading to a brief confrontation.
Later on, the police allowed five representatives to go ahead and submit memorandum to the Chief Minister.
The memorandum expressed strong objection to inclusion of any part of the land belonging to 10 villages under Sekmai Assembly Constituency, namely Senjam Chirang, Senjam Khunou, Awang Sekmai, Pheiyeng, Tairenpokpi, Khurkhul, Kha-Kadangband, Awang Kadangband, Kangchup and Koutruk in the proposed creation of Sadar Hills district.
Talking to mediapersons on the side line of protest rally, General Secretary of Land Protection Committee, Sekmai Kendra W Jotin pointed out that land belonging to these 10 villages have been included partially or fully in the map proposed by SHDDC for the creation of Sadar hills district.
The Government of Manipur should ensure that the said land remained within Sekmai A/C.If the Government fails to give a definite assurance over the demand of Land Protection Committee within the next 10 days, the Committee may be compelled to launch various intense agitations.
