Sops for pregnant women at RIMS

Child deli-very at RIMS will now get a concession of Rs 2150 under Janani Shishu Suraksha Kar-yakram (JSSK) even though normal delivery costs around Rs 8270 .
JSSK scheme was taken up by the Government of In-dia under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with the objective of costless child delivery in hospitals regardless of whether it is nor- mal delivery or through cae-sarean section.
Other benefits of JSSK are free provision of drugs and consumable items, free blood test, urine test, free ultrasound test etc.
Blood would also be provided free of cost, if necessary.
Transportation charge of bringing pregnant women to hospitals would be reimbursed.
In case of normal delivery, women would be given three days' diet and if it is through caesarean section, diet would be given for seven days.
Mo-reover, in case the newborns get ill within 30 days of delivery, they would be treated in hospitals free of cost.
The scheme was first implemented in Manipur on August 15, 2011 at Primary Health Centres and Community Health Centres.
But the scheme could not deliver its full potential at PHCs and CHCs.
Subsequently, JSSK has been implemented in RIMS and JNIMS.
Now a room has been opened beside the entrance to RIMS gynae ward.
There NRHM staff have been reimbursing expenditures incurred during child delivery on production of medical documents.
On visiting the newly opened room, details of the benefits available under JSSK were seen written on a poster.
Benefits available under the scheme, according to the poster, are Rs 50 for admission, Rs 350 to Rs 1600 for medicines, Rs 200 for urine and blood test and Rs 500 to Rs 1000 for transportation.
Another poster gives details of the documents necessary for claiming reimbursement.
A patient party who was coming out after claiming reimbursement told this reporter that they spent around Rs 8270 in child delivery but the JSSK staff reimbursed only Rs 2150 .
Nonetheless, the staff collected cash memo of Rs 7200 for undergoing medical tests and purchasing medicines.
Another patient party said that they were reimbursed just Rs 850 against Rs 4520 they spent in the child delivery.
Husband of a pregnant woman who has been admitted in RIMS gynae ward said that the Government scheme of JSSK is a commendable one.
The scheme sounds like all cases of child delivery would be done free of cost.
If the scheme should be what it sounds like, then all medicines required for child delivery should be stocked in adequate quantity.
Whether it is hospitals under State Government or RIMS, none of these hospitals are able to provide medicines which should be given to patients free of cost.
Patient parties are even buying plasters, bandages etc from outside the hospitals, said the young husband.
