Man shot dead by drinking partner

A drinking session in a local liquor vendor here today ended in tragedy when a man was shot dead by one of three men who were drinking with him.
The incident took place at Gaipuinam Kabui village near the Inter-State Bus Turminus at Khuman Lampak under Imphal Police Station at around 1:30 pm.
According to eye witnesses, the deceased, later identified as Apam Tangkhul hailed from UKhrul district's Somdal village and he died on the spot after the assailant shot two bullets into his neck and jaw.
One of the accomplices of the armed assailant was rounded up by the locals and handed him over to the police.
The accomplice identified himself to the police as Azek (33) of Tusar village, Ukhrul.
He is also the one who identified the victim as Apam Tangkhul as well as the other two men as Jack and Ashok.
Jack was the man who shot and killed Apam with a small weapon; the police quoted Azek as saying.
The locals said the incident occurred shortly after the four men started drinking inside the vendor owned by one Lungangmei Kamei.
Police have recovered two empty cartridges from the scene of the crime and a case has been registered at Imphal Police Station in connection with the incident.
Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man was found near Sapermeina Police Station in Senapati district about 5:30 am today.
Police have retirved the body and kept at the mortuary of RIMS Hospital here for post mortem.
