Liangmais celebrate Chaga Ngee ; Dy CM hopes festival unifies people

Gracing the grandest annual festival of the liangmai tribe called Chaga Ngee as the chief guest at Namdilong village in Kanglatongbi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam conveyed firm belief that various festivals of different communities celebrated in the State would accelerate peace and development in Manipur.
Addressing the gathering during the inauguration of the cultural extravaganza-dominated festival, Gaikhangam expressed that the traditional festival provides one the golden opportunity to embrace righteousness and strive for physical wellbeing and mental enlightenment.
Further stating that Chaga Ngee festival is an occasion to seek the almighty's blessing for bountiful food crops and societal tranquillity, he reaffirmed the belief that the festival will renew age-old fraternal bonds between the hill and valley people.

The Deputy CM also conveyed warm wishes to the Ningols (sisters) of Manipur ahead of the Ningol Chakkouba festival.
While IFC Minister Ngamthang Haokip speaking at the occasion hailed the Liangmai tribe as virtuous and courageous, Sekmai AC MLA Kh Debendro in his brief address assured to consult Tribal Development Department authorities for setting up a hostel for scheduled tribe students at Namdilong village.
Delivering the key-note address of the festival, Hill Areas Committee Vice Chairman Kikhonbou Newmai highlighted that Chaga Ngee festival is an auspicious occasion for the Liangmai people to seek the almighty's blessing for reaching the cherished goal.
Noting that culture defines a particular community's developmental progression, the MLA also called upon the Liangmai people to preserve the tribe's cultural heritage.
The highlight of the festival was presentation of varied cultural items by different troupes.
