Imphal, October 30 2013:
Taking serious note of the series of bomb blasts that have rocked Greater Imphal in recent times, Chief Minister O Ibobi convened a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party today from 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm, said an unofficial source.
Efforts to contact the Government spokesperson to get an official version, drew blank.
After minutely discussing the issue, the meeting decided to appoint a police officer of the rank of either a DIG or an IGP to look after the overall security arrangements in Greater Imphal.
The CLP members also expressed concern over the latest trend, in which the targets seem to have shifted from the security personnel to the public.
During the meeting apprehension was aired that if such a trend continues and bombs are planted to ostensibly target civilians, then the possibility of reimposing the disturbed area tag in the seven Assembly segments of Imphal Municipal Council and pave the return for Armed Forces Special Powers Act is a distinct possibility.
