Imphal, October 23 2016:
The Transporters and Drivers Council (TDC) has raised strong objection to the BRTF's appeal for prohibition on movement of heavy vehicles on Imphal-Jiribam highway from October 24 to 30 for repairing dilapidated sections near Makru bridge and Barak bridge which has developed a crack.
After 300 truck loads of stones were sent to the highway, TDC started repairing the dilapidated sections since yesterday and BRO has been assisting in the repairing work by providing manpower and machinery.
The dilapidated sections would be motorable by October 24, said TDC president H Ranjit.
He appealed to the State Government to provide security escorts for movement of empty trucks from Imphal on October 26 in view of the Ningol Chakkouba and Kut festivals.
As for the BRTF's appeal to close the highway to heavy vehicles for seven days, the same may be done after November 1 .
He also appealed to all transporters not to load their vehicles above 20 tonnes (excluding the vehicle's weight) .
