Imphal, October 23 2016:
Coming out strongly against the decision of the Heads of Departments and Deans of Manipur University to endorse the October 8 resolution of the Academic Council which pegs the reservation quota of SC at 15 pc, ST at 7.5 pc and OBC at 27 pc, the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur has today asserted that this is against the law and hence should not be implemented.
Accordingly, DESAM said it has written to the Union Human Resources Development Minister to take up fitting action against acting VC Prof Amar Yumnam and the teachers who took the resolution.
In a statement, the student body said that the Academic Council of MU during its meeting on October 11 had decided to refer the October 8 resolution to the Visitor of the varsity and wait for a response from the office of the Visitor.
As such why was there such a hurry in endorsing the October 8 resolution again this time, questioned DESAM.
What is the hidden agenda in endorsing the resolution so soon, asked DESAM.
After DESAM set three days to the State BJP to make its stand clear to the Central Government on the reservation row in admission to MU, the party had stated that MU should follow the Central norms, said the statement.
Now that the HoDs and Deans have endorsed the October 8 resolution, it is only right that the State BJP highlight the matter to the Centre, so that the deadlock at MU may be resolved, added DESAM.
Noting the declaration that admission process will start soon, DESAM said that this is nothing but forcing one's way through and added that this will not be for the good of anyone.
