2nd Manipur open Chess tournament begins

Imphal, October 23 2016:
The 2nd Manipur Open Chess Tournament 2016 organised by Manipur Chess Association (MCA) was opened today by Deputy Chief Minister, Gaikhangam at Kangshang Khumam Lampak Sports Complex.
Players from different districts of the State will compete in different categories in the tournament which will continue till Oct 31 .
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dy CM Gaikhangam, who attended as the chief guest appreciated the organisers for promoting chess in the State and encouraged State players to continue playing the game which is considered as one of the most oldest and most relaxing game.
He further appealed to the youngsters of the State to play the game since chess players are strategists as the game improves the level of thinking and it also involves devotion, concentration, determination and use of intelligence.
The function was attended by N Samarjit Singh, president MCA, T Thouba Singh, Asstt Director (Coaching), Deptt of YAS, Wangkhemcha Shamjai, president, AMWJU, and Deven Singh, advisor, MCA apart from other dignitaries and veteran players.
