Imphal, October 23 2016:
As part of its campaign to include the Meeteis/Meiteis in the Scheduled Tribe list of the Constitution of India under Article 342 (1), the Co-ordinating Body of the Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee, Manipur is set to launch a signature campaign.
In a statement, CBSTDCM said that the signatures thus collected will be forwarded to the Government to highlight the point that a large number of Meitei people want to be included in the ST list.
Urging all to extend their co-operation, CBSTDCM asked the people to append their signatures on the forms prepared at every leikai.
Meiteis who are staying far from home can also log onto the Facebook account of CBSTDCM, download the needed page, sign on it and then e-mail the same to [email protected] or send a message through the inbox.
Stating that each and every signature is highly prized, CBSTDCM said that from October 24 a signature campaign will be launched from 9 am to 4 pm at Khwairamband Keithel for one week.
The State Government has also been asked to prepare an ethnography report of the Meiteis and submit the same to the Government of India by October 31 along with a report on the socio-economic status of the people.
In case the Government fails to meet the demand of the CBSTDCM, a convention of the Meitei people will be convened and decisions on what steps to be taken up will be taken, added the statement.
All the Meitei people have been urged to attend the convention and submit their opinions and suggestions.
