Imphal, April 22 2015 :
The acting director of JN Institute of Medical Sciences left Imphal on Wednesday on a long leave.
Meanwhile the cease work strike was intensified from Wednesday as the nurses have also joined it.
The striking teachers and non-teaching staff are demanding, inter alia, removal of Dr M Shaymo the acting director on the ground that he was made the in charge although he is not qualified under the recruitment rules.
However he said that he was not aware of the fact that the striking staff members are demanding his removal.
He said that he was taking a long leave to give a free hand to the chief minister Okram Ibobi who is the chairman of the governing body.
It is up to him to appoint a new and regular director during his absence.
Another point of the striking staff is that deserving teachers were not given due promotion which means that their service career would be affected.
Though the strike notice and other demands had been given to the authority long time back there has been no point by point explanation to the teachers.
No fresh admission of the patients was taken on Wednesday.
Routine operations were also suspended.
Although it was announced that the ward patients will continue to get their treatment most of the patients had left.
NNN Adds: The strike by employees of at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) has intensified as the staff nurses of the institute have joined the protest on Wednesday.
The strike halted OPD, casualty and routine operation services in the hospital.
The loopholes in the administration of the institute emerged after Manipur Government upgraded the JN Hospital to JNIMS on Medical Council of India's (MCI) recommendation recently, sources said.
The doctors, teachers and other staff members of the institute have launched the cease-work strike after a sit-in-protest was staged on Tuesday.
The agitating employees have demanded immediate removal of JNIMS Director in-charge Dr M Shyamo from his post and decided to carry on with the stir until the demand is met.
Nurses Association of JNIMS also joined the cease-work strike on separate demands.
Claiming that they have been deprived of their basic rights by the authority concerned, the staff nurses protested by wearing black badges.
They are demanding proper and due allowances.
The striking nurses also condemned the JNIMS Director and the State Health Department for ignoring their demands.
