Loktak Downstream Project

With a view to generate its own power, the State Government today discussed the Loktak Downstream Project.
With Chief Minister N Biren in the chair, a high level meeting was held today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on the Loktak Downstream Project.
Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister Th Biswajit, Chief Secretary Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest, Environment & Climate Change) MH Khan, Manipur State Power Company Limited (MSPCL) Managing Director N Sarat, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest Soreiphy, Environment and Climate Change Joint Director Th Brajakumar, LDA Director and high ranking officials of different departments attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister instructed the officials concerned to carry out a feasibility study on whether the Loktak Downstream Project can be implemented at the site already identified or not.
The meeting also discussed from which Ministry the State Government should seek financial assistance if the Loktak Downstream Project turns out to be feasible, sources informed.
According to a Facebook post of Chief Minister N Biren, the State Government has been eyeing to generate enough power to meet the State's requirement.
Once the Loktak Downstream Project is successfully implemented and commissioned, the State Government would be able to supply adequate power to the people without depending on others and it would boost growth of many other sectors, said the Chief Minister's Facebook post.
