Imphal, August 26 2010:
Following the suspension of newspapers publication in Churachandpur in protest against threat issued to journalist RK Tombing, of the Churachandpur based daily paper Lamka Post by KNF-MC, which is a signatory of the Suspension of Operations pact, the State Govt has issued strict instructions through the State Nodal Officer of SoO to work out a solution so that newspapers can resume publication.
The KNO has been reminded that there was no reason not to take up befitting actions in the event of violating SoO ground rules, informed a reliable source.
As the KNF-MC entered the SoO pact under the umbrella of KNO, the latter was informed of the Government's standpoint with regard to the acts of threats and pressure mounted on the media persons.
The same instruction and position of the Government have been conveyed not only to the KNO chairman but also the commander-in-chief of the KNF-MC.
Notably, unlike the preceding ones where the SoO pact was extended for one year, this time the same pact was extended only for 45 days.
This was done to fuflil certain objectives within a fixed period of time in accordance to the SoO ground rules.
