Imphal, August 26 2010: Manipur police commandos and Assam Rifles have arrested at least seven underground and overground activists of various outfits from different parts of the state during the past 24 hours.

A team of Imphal East district police commandos arrested one KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) cadre identified as Lousigam Joykukar (49) of Luwangshangbam from his house at about 9.15 am yesterday.

SP Imphal East, Th Radheshyam informed in a press release that Joykumar has disclosed that he joined KCP (Lamyanba Khuman) last year through one Shamungou, and he was involved in extortion of money from various sections of the society.

The SP further informed that another cadre of PREPAK namely Ningthoujam Anand @ Imo (30) of Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai was arrested from Lamlong bazar by the same district police commandos at about 3.30 pm the same day.

He had joined PREPAK in 2007 through one Wahengbam Boiler and was involved in recruiting two boys namely Chingsubam Johny and Chingsubam Lait.

Imphal West district police commandos under the supervision of DySP (CDO) S Ibomcha arrested one NSCN (K) activist from Electricity Power House, Keishampat, Chandel Division, identified as Md Jamaruddin (57) of Yairipok Tuhilal around 12.15 pm yesterday.

A sum of Rs 4,99,000 and three demand letters of NSCN (K) were seized from his possession.

On interrogation, he disclosed that the seized amount was collected from Electricity Department, Keishampat, Chandel Division.

A team of 33 Assam Rifles areested one hardcore KYKL cadre identified as S/S Capt Laishram Naoba @ Romesh (31) of Moirang Thoya Mamang Leikai in Bishnupur district, a PIB (DW) press release informed.

It further stated that on interrogation, the individual has revealed that he was evading the state police since 1995.Presently the individual was working as Town Cdr Moirang in Bishnupur district.

He has been carrying out extortion, tax collection and providing administrative assistance to the outfit.

The arrested cadre has been handed over to Moirang Police Station.

On the other hand, troops of 15 AR of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR (South) arrested three overground workers of KYKL from Khongjom bazar during an operation around 09.15 am yesterday.

A press release issued by PRO, HQ IG AR (S) informed that the arrested cadres have been identified as Bobi @ Safiqur Rehman (21) of Sora village, Nanao @ Ratan (23) of Langathel and H Romen (23) of Games Village.

The arrested cadres were handed over to Thoubal Police Station.

In another incident, troops of 29 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) arrested one Myanmarese national while carrying out checking of vehicles at Tengnoupal around 7 am today.

The arrested Maynamarese revealed that two months back he traveled from Moreh to Imphal through NH-39.He worked in general area Mantripukhri as a jeweler.

The individual was moving to Moreh and further to Myanmar.

The apprehendee was identified as Sa Maw (29), son of U Ten Thow, resident of Tamu, Myanmar.

One pocket diary, one mobile handset (Nokia-1209), one BSNL SIM, one money bag, 65 gem stones, Rs 1906 and some papers in Burmese were recovered from the apprehendee, who along with the recoveries was handed over to the Immigration Office, Moreh.
