The impasse over the threats by the Finance Secretary of KNF (MC), Lhungjang to PK Tombing, reporter of The Lamka Post daily has been amicably solved at 1 pm today.
The Commander-in-Chief of KNF(MC) has given assurance on the safety of PK Tombing in particular and all working journalists in general against undue threats and intimidations in future.
With this, the impasse has come to a close.
Therefore, publication of all newspapers under Manipur Hill Journalists' Union (MHJU) will resume from August 28, 2010, announced Secretary, Information and Publicity, MHJU, G Muanthang today.
Meanwhile, the MHJU expressed profound gratitude to all well wishers who morally and physically supported the cause of media fraternity during their agitation for protection of press freedom.
The MHJU expressed its gratitude to the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and local cable networks of Churachandpur for their unstinted support and co-operation.
The Union also thanked the Churachandpur District Students' Union (CDSU), Richard Tongminthang, MDC/Sagang DCC, Achou, SO/PHED, Miller T Goumang and others for their moral support and co-operation.
At the same time, vice president of MHJU, Kh Benlian Vaiphei, in a letter to the Chief Minister of Manipur, informed that the MHJU has reached an amicable settlement over the impasse arising out of threats issued to PK Tombing by Lhunjang, Finance Secretary of KNF (MC) after meticulous discussions with German, Commander-in-Chief, KNF (MC).
The vice president urged the Chief Minister to withdraw all pending cases in regard to the said impasse.
Copies of the letter were also sent to all the concerned officers of the Government of Manipur.
Meanwhile, Ukhrul District Journalists Association (UDJA) has strongly condemned the threat to Churachandpur based Lamka Post daily reporter PK Tombing allegedly by Lhunjang, Finance Secretary of KNF (MC).
Secretary of UDJA, Shimreingam A Shatsang in a press release described the threat as very unfortunate to all media people in the state.
In the past many months, there had been all kinds of threat on media.
The UDJA appealed to the Government of Manipur to pave broader way and free movement for media persons irrespective of hill and valley, and just let them do their job freely, fairly and without fear anywhere in the country for the betterment of the society.
