Imphal, April 03 2010:
Two suspected to be underground activists attempted to kidnap a section officer of the Public Works Department from his house at Khonghampat Awang Leikai under Sekmai police station of Imphal west district on last Tuesday.
Decrying the bid to kidnap the officer, Thangjam Ibomcha (54), womenfolk of the locality today staged a sit-in protest.
Reports said that Ibomcha was attempted by the two unknown youths who intruded to his house on the night of April 1, at about 7 pm.
However, due to the intervention by the locals on hearing altercation, the two youths run away leaving behind the SO.
The two youths entered to the house of Ibomcha when he was chatting with one of his local friends, Manihar and insisted him to go with them saying that they have some matter to talk with.
When Ibomcha asked about their identities they informed that they were sent by KK Nganba of KCP.
One of the youths took out a small from his possession and attempted to carry away Ibomcha at gun point, locals said.
Ibomcha somehow escaped from the youth who put him at gun point.
On hearing altercations at the house in the aftermath of Ibomcha escaped, locals thronged the house which resulted the two youths left the place soon.
In protest against the attempt to kidnap the officer, local womenfolk staged a sit-in protest today at the locality starting from 10 am till 3 pm condemning the attempt to kidnap local man and demanded not to indulge in kidnapping people for ransom.
