Imphal, April 03 2010:
Rastriya Janata Dal (RJD), though a coalition partner of the SPF Government, would be fielding its own candidates in the upcoming Autonomous District Council polls as well as the State Assembly elections slated for 2012.This was stated by RJD National Secretary (North East Province) Ashok Singh.
Speaking to media persons at Babupara office of RJD State unit this morning, Ashok Singh said that RJD would put up its own candidates in both ADC polls and Assembly elections only in constitutions where the party has prospects.
In other constituencies, the party would go together with Congress, he clarified.
The RJD Secretary was on a two day visit to the State in connection with organisation of the party's State unit.
Ashok Singh went on to claim that RJD candidates will win more ADC seats than any other party in the upcoming polls in Chandel and Churachandpur districts.
To ensure success of its candidates, the party has already launched campaign at district level.
Explaining RJD supported Congress to keep away BJP from forming Government, Ashok said that the party would identify the areas where it would put up its candidates for the ADC polls in a meeting scheduled for April 9 together with district level leaders.
RJD supremo Lalu Prasad would be visiting the State after the ADC polls to take stock of the party's strength in Manipur.
Pledging that RJD will extend all possible assistance towards solving different problems plaguing the State, Ashok also assured that the party would put in best efforts to remove social insecurity being felt by the people of Manipur.
The party would also urge the Centre to repeal Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act.
Recalling that Lalu Prasad Yadav worked hard to extend railway connectivity to Manipur during his tenure as Railway Minister, the RJD Secretary opined that more emphasis should be laid on agriculture, industry and rural development in order to remove the problem of unemployment and lack of employment avenues.
