Even as the State Government has decided to approach the Government of Japan for funding in connection with drilling of tunnel and laying pipeline for supplying drinking water to Imphal city from Maphou dam, the Chief Secretary of the State is set to leave Imphal for Paris on April 17 to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for extension of the Imphal Sewerage Project which is under construction.
Accordingly to a reliable source, following the decision of the State Government to the Japan International Corporation Agency for necessary funding in connection with drilling the tunnels and laying the pipeline for supplying drinking water to Imphal city from Maphou Dam which is distance of 25 kms, a meeting of the Foreign Investment Board had already been held to discuss the matter with Chief Secretary in the chair.
Consequently, the Department of Economic Affairs to whom the task of approaching Government of Japan for providing the required funding had given its approval.
The water supply project envisaged to generate 85 million gallon of water in a day for uninterrupted supply.
On the other hand, it is said that the Government of India has given its approval to the concept plant prepared by the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) for proper treatment of the water in Loktak lake for distribution in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary DS Poonia and Additional Chief Engineer of PHED Sunil are scheduled to leave Imphal for Paris on April 17 for signing an MoU with the Government of France for extension of the Imphal Sewerage Project being taken up with funding from the French Government.
The MoU would be signed after a joint meeting at the capital of France from April 19 to 22 .
