Imphal, April 03 2010:
Joining the demand for implementation of the recommendations of the 6th Central Pay Commission, the All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association has decided to stage cease-work strike on April 6 followed by sit-protest in different districts from April 9 .
Speaking to reporters this afternoon, general secretary of the association Ch Shantikumar lamented that even as Council of Teachers Association (COTA), a joint body of teachers, have repeatedly appealed to the Government to implement recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission in toto, the Government has been keeping the demand in abeyance.
Rather, the Government has been trying to project in bad light employees demanding implementation of the 6th Central Pay Commission in toto.
Teachers from Primary level to Higher Secondary level held a meeting at TG Higher Secondary School and decided to launch various sorts of agitation.
As per the resolutions of the meeting, teachers from Primary level to Higher Secondary level would stage cease-work strike on April 6 .
Teachers on duty for matric exam (old course) would be exempted from the cease-work strike, Shantikumar said.
After the cease-work strike, protest demonstrations would be staged on April 9 in Imphal West, on April 11 in Imphal east, on April 13 in Bishnupur, on April 15 in Thoubal, on April 17 in Senapati, on April 19 in Churachandpur, April 21 in Ukhrul and in Tamenglong district on April 23, he said.
If the Government still refuses to fulfil the demand even after these proposed agitation, teachers will launch 'fill jails' agitation.
What the teachers are demanding is not something additional but what is rightfully due to them, he asserted.
