Imphal, July 07 2016 :
The 67th Vanamahotsava 2016 was observed at Trade cum permanent Exhibition Centre, Lam-boikhongnangkhong today under the aegis of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest.
The programme was graced by Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Commerce and Industries, Sericutire, Vety and AH Minister Govindas Konthoujam as presidium members.
Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that Vanamahotsava has reminded the people the duties to conserve nature and its resources.
"We have to determine our future by what we do today.
We cannot live as if the resources of our environment are inexhaustible.
The founding fathers of our Nation had well realised this truth and initiated programmes like the Vanamahotsava in order to protect ourselves by protecting the nature," the Chief Minister said.
Lauding the then Union Agriculture Minister KM Munshi who had introduced the observation of Vanamahotsava in 1950, Chief Minister O Ibobi urged the citizens of the State to continue protecting the environment.
Balancing our development activities with nature is important as developments need to be sustainable.
"As we all know that Manipur is going to have a smart city very soon and forestry component is going to be very important so that the smart city does not impact the environment," the Chief Minister said.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam said that the impacts of climate change have been experienced by all.
As such, people need to collectively conserve the environment.
Manipur is endowed with abundant natural resources.
Therefore, we must contribute our part so that the resources never run out.
