Introduction of Gangte as MIL celebrated

Celebration of the introduction of Gangte language as MIL in Classes IX and X recently by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) was held amidst pomp and gaiety at Tribal Research Institute (TRI) Hall, Chingmeirong, Imphal on July 6,2016 where members of the Gangte tribe from all places of their settlements attended.
The programme held under the auspices of Gangte MIL Celebration Committee was graced by NJ Gangte, IFS, Joint Secretary, MEA, Gol; H Thanghaulien Gangte, IPS, CO, 5 IRB and Ng Joseph Gangte, IRS, Joint Commissioner, Income Tax, Imphal as the chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
Gangte is an independent tribe with a population of about 20,000 and accorded recognition in 1956 by the Govt of India.
Blessing prayer, felicitation of members of Gangte Literature Society (GLS), encouragement speech, presentation of gifts to Gangte textbook writers marked the programme while veteran and prominent artistes such as Chongmawi, LT Son, H Kailalmuon, Lalhrietzing, Boinei, Julie Mawi, Hopson, Langol Seino Lawm, New Lambulane GYO troupe, Ccpur College unit GSO troupe, etc mesmerised the audiences who were packed to capacity with their captivating melodies and scintillating performances.
Hosts of the event, Lamboi Gangte, Member, ADC, Chandel and SL Gangte, Member, ADC, Tamenglong said the programme was organised to give thanks to the Almighty for the blessings, to promote Gangte literature and importantly to forge unity among the Gangtes.
Speakers of the function stressed the need to preserve and promote the Gangte literature while also extending appreciation to BSEM for introducing the Gangte language as MIL in Classes IX and X in fulfilment of the long cherished dreams and aspirations of the Gangtes.
They called upon all concerned to shed all differences, keep aside parochial mindset, egotism and dwell together in unity and work for the larger betterment of the tribe and society as a whole.
They also urged all concerned to remain guarded against any divisive forces or agendas which are
threatening the unity of the Gangtes while also imploring all and sundry to promote and safeguard the 'language' .
Most of the speakers further articulated that language can act as a centripetal force for even deeply polarised community while also wishing that the language acts as an inseparable bond and unifying force among the Gangtes.
The speakers amidst thunderous cheers and applauds called on the people to march ahead confidently and in God fearing manner as one.
Prominent personalities among the tribe who attended the programme included Seilenmang, Member, Khou-sabung DCC, ADC Ccpur; Lalboi Gangte; D Angam, president, GTU; LK Tinsoi, president, GTC; Lunpi Thangjom, VP, GTU; ST Gangte, SDO, Ccpur; T Dongzakai, chief of Hill Town; Soizalal H Thangzom, retired ZEO; SK Gangte, former GS, GLS; Dr PM Gangte, academician, Seiboi Haokip, GS, KSO-Ghqs; apart from other Church, tribe, student and youth leaders.
