CM projects Andro, Kaina as tourist destinations

Andro and Kaina are being developed as tourist destinations and roads leading to these tourist sites would be widened, stated Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh during the inaugural programme of the 9th State level Pineapple Festival cum Seller & Buyers' Meet and Youth Festival 2016 at Thambalnu Market Complex, Poiroupat Lkttikhai, yesterday.
The festival is being organised by the Development Organisation Andro Kendra.
The Chief Minister said that the construction work of Thoubal Dam Mapithel Dam is nearing completion.
During the rainy season, rain water will be collected in the 16-km long upstream which will in turn provide drinking water to greater Imphal areas besides generation of elec-tricity and irrigation facility.
Chief Minister O Ibobi stated that Manipur is very suitable for horticultural pro- duces which are famous outside the State for their distinct qualities and flavours.
The Government of Manipur through the Horticulture and Soil Conservation De- partment is taking up many initiatives for promotion of horticulture produces and marketing by organising festivals.
Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar said that the festival is being organised to encourage pineapple farmers and to boost their economy.
He highlighted the initiatives taken up regarding the development of education sector in the Andro AC.
He also drew the attention of the State Government for establishing a Government college.
Commissioner of Horticulture and Soil Conservation T Pamei, Commander of 9 sector Assam Rifles Brig JS Bainsla and Commandant of 2 nd Assam Rifles Col JC Hajamis also attended the programme as the guests of honour.
The festival will conclude on July 10 .
