Imphal, July 07 2016 :
Peeved over the death of a 34-year-old woman while delivering baby at RIMS, angry locals and family members tried to storm and pelted stones at the administrative block of the medical institute yesterday.
According to the family members, the woman identified as Thokchom Ongbi Kheroda w/o Thokchom Somorendro of Khurai Sajor Leikai was a patient of Dr Bimol.
It was her second baby and she consulted the same doctor for the birth of her first daughter as well around seven years back.
Although her expected date of delivery is July 15, Kheroda was brought to RIMS as she was complaining of abdomen pain on July 4 morning, they said.
As Dr Bimol was out of station that day, she was checked by Dr Nabakishore.
After examining her fresh ultra sound results, the doctor advised her to return home, they said.
After she started experiencing intense abdomen pain again, Kheroda was rushed to the hospital in the evening of July 5, family members said and added that she was wheeled into the labour room at around 8 pm the same day.
At around 9 pm, Kheroda gave birth to a baby girl, they said and added they were informed that Dr Nabakishore was not present at the time of her delivery.
They were told that the
delivery process was done by the PG students of the medical institute.
Later, Kheroda was taken to the rest room.
However, her bleeding did not stop, they said.
The family members alleged that the doctors on duty did not pay heed to their caution on Kheroda's condition.
As Kheroda's condition was deteriorating with each passing minute due to bleeding, they informed Dr Nabakishore about her condition over the phone.
However, the doctor did not turn up immediately, the family members alleged.
At around 11 pm, Kheroda was taken inside the operation theatre and Dr Nabakishore also arrived there within a few minutes,
family members said.
Dr Nabakishore came out from operation theatre at 2.30 am and told the family members that the bleeding had stopped but Kheroda's blood pressure was too low due to excessive loss of blood.
The doctor also asked them to arrange six bottles of blood.
Even as the family members were looking for blood, Kheroda was taken into ICU as her condition worsened.
Later at around 3.30 am, Dr Nabakishore informed the family members that Kheroda was no more, they said.
After hearing the news, large number of locals and family members gathered at RIMS complex from early morning.
Khurai AC MLA Ng Bijoy also arrived at the complex to meet the locals and officials of RIMS.
Medical Superintendent M Amuba assured that the incident would be thoroughly probed to find out whether there was negligence on the part of the doctors and hospital staff.
Even as the MLA was talking with the angry family members and locals, some of them went to RIMS administrative block and pelted stones at the building.
Lamphel police came at the spot and controlled the irate people.
Meanwhile people of four different localities gathered at the community hall of Kongpal Sajor Leikai and formed a JAC in a joint meeting this evening.
The meeting resolved to press the RIMS authority to find out the responsible doctors and staff in Kheroda's death.
The meeting observed that the unfortunate incident happened due to the negligence of Dr NK Singh and Dr Trinity who were on duty on July 5.The people who gathered at the meeting also resolved to ask the RIMS authority to provide a copy of the report of the enquiry within July 8 .
They further demanded that post mortem of the deceased be conducted with full video coverage by the JAC in the presence of a forensic expert and a legal expert.
A copy of the autopsy report must be handed over to the JAC within two days of the post mortem examination, the JAC demanded.
