CM Ibobi inaugurates Children Home

Imphal, October 03 2015 : Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, on Saturday, inaugurated a 6 crore worth Government Children Home for boys at the Social Welfare Department campus, Takyelpat.

Attending as chief guest, the Chief Minister, during his speech, lauded the Department of Social Welfare for successfully setting up a hostel for children inside its office campus.

Stating that the Social Welfare Department is dedicated to welfare of people from birth till old age, the CM urged the department employees to vest more passion and dedication in their work.

The construction of children homes under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment would prove fruitful only when the works are taken up truthfully.

Alluding to the mismanagement of funds by Govern- ment Departments, the CM said development is impossibly without earnestness.

Repairing old buildings with the funds allocated for the construction of new ones and/or misappropriation of funds meant for old age pension or children nutrition schemes hinders the growth and development of the State.

If construction of new buildings are required, the Department concerned may submit reports in phase wise manner to the State Government so that required action could be taken up by the State.

Calling for a combined effort in securing a better future for orphaned children, the CM urged Departments concerned to accelerate construction works of children homes in all the districts of the State.

The Chief Minister further urged active State NGOs to exact funds from the Central Government for use in the welfare of the orphaned children.

Government, non-government associations/NGOs and the people should work together for the welfare of younger generations of the society, the CM stated.

Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro Singh, during his speech, declared a new education policy for the State to be implemented in 2016 .

Under the new policy, the State Education Department would work in close coordination with the Social Welfare Department.

The policy also suggest direct admission of children to school after anganwadi classes.

The Education Minister assured appointment of 5 or 6 teachers to teach the inmates of children home which was inaugurated today.

The State Government has so far constructed nine other children homes and 50 residential schools for girls at nine different districts of the State.

Over 2100 children are under the care of the State Government at different homes constructed for the purpose.

These children homes and residential schools are run and managed by people dedicated to look after children who has noone to look after.

Ministry of Social Welfare Department AK Mirabai gave appreciation to the PWD Department officials for constructing the new children home with much care and concern.

Mirabai further extended gratitude to the Minister of Education Moirangthem Okendro for his proposal to appoint teachers to educate the children of the home.

She further prod the Education Minister to keep up his words.

Principal secretary SK Dev Barman, TA & Hills, Social Welfare and PWD Department Chief Engineer M Lokendro Singh were also present at the inaugural event.

Inmates of the newly inaugurated children home presented simple gifts to the attending chief guest, president and guest of honour.

The gathering also plan\ted saplings around the new building later in the day.
