Imphal, October 03 2015 :
In tandem with the increased revenue collection following introduction of pre-paid meter system in Imphal area, the Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) has initiated necessary measures to ensure 24 hours power supply in a day at Imphal and all other district headquarters.
One official of MSPDCL commercial wing told The Sangai Express that pre-paid meters would be installed for all power consumers residing in Imphal and they would get power supply for 24 hours in a day from January next year.
The total number of pre-paid meters required for power consumers of Imphal is around 90,000 and Imphal consumes 35 to 40 million units of power in a day.
It is expected that installation of pre-paid meters for all power consumers of Imphal would be completed by December this year.

Imphal has around 1.3 lakh power consumers.
Whereas the Government spends Rs 10.5 crore every month in purchasing power needed by the power consumers of Imphal, MSPDCL is now able to collect Rs 5.5 to Rs 6 crore every month in power bills which is a marked improvement.
In order to reduce technical losses, the company has been laying under ground AB cables under ARPDP and the same work would be completed by the end of December.
Power consumers of Im-phal would be required to pay power bills only at pre-paid counters once the pre-paid meters are fully installed.
The official appealed to all power consumers to pay outstanding power bills.
Moreover, plans are afoot to provide power supply for 24 hours a day in all hill district headquarters too.
Installation of pre-paid meters at hill district headquarters would be completed by March next year.
Informing that collection of power tax from hill districts is quite dismal at the moment, the official source said that the company is now paying extra attention to system improvement, system strengthening and installation of pre-paid meters.
The total power bill indebted to power consumers of the State stands at Rs 450 crore.
Since the company came into being, the State is now able to collect Rs 9 crore to 10 crore every month in power bills as against Rs 4-5 crore collected earlier.
The company has set a target of collecting at least Rs 14-15 crore every month in power bills.
Power supply through post paid meter system would be launched in Takyel area on tribal basis.
Under the new system, consumers would be given instantaneous bill statements from spot billing machines and they would be allowed to pay power bills using 'swiping cards'.
The company has already introduced online payment of power bills apart from providing pre-paid coupons at five different places.
