CCpur, October 03 2015 :
At least five people in Churachandpur district have tested positive for Dengue on Thursday while 13 other suspected samples are awaiting their final results as of today, according to CMO Dr Thangchinkhup Guite.
With cases of Dengue reappearing in the district after it had left many residents bed-ridden in 2011, the Medical Department has started preparations to counter any outbreak.
"We will start alerting the public about the disease through PA systems from tonight itself.
We are also in the process of repairing the redundant three fogging machines that are in our custody.
Once we manage to restart those machines or obtain new ones, we will immediately start fogging exercises in areas where the fever is reported," said the CMO.
The district medical department has on Thursday received the confirmation of Dengue cases in the district.
Five out of the eight samples it sent for examination have tested positive.
Another 13 samples were again dispatched today for closer examination at Imphal and their results are still awaited, according to the Chief Medical Officer.
The five cases of Dengue confirmed so far were reported from Rengkai area.
Some of them have travelled outside the State while at least one of the patient's better-half has been treated for the disease in Delhi.
However most of them have never travelled outside, evoking the likelihood of local transmission, he added.
