Imphal, October 03 2015 :
Volunteers of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) have seized different articles from a shop, which allegedly altered price tag, at Thangal bazar today.
Speaking to reporters at their head office, AMSU secretary general Manjit Sarangthem said that they conducted a surprise drive near Axis Bank, Thangal bazar today.
During the drive, a shop was found selling many articles having altered price tags, he said.
Saying that the shop owner fixed new price tags above the old price tags, Manjit questioned why the authority concerned has not taken any step to check such malpractices.
He observed that people are facing intense hardships due to such inactions of the State Government.
Manjit questioned whether the Government has an intention to suck blood of the people in connivance with the shop owners and businessmen.
If the Government Department concerned works effectively, the shop owners who sell underweight articles, can be jailed for three months and fined Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000, he said.
Manjit cautioned that if the Government Department concerned is unable to take action against such shops, AMSU is ready to permanently close down these shops.
During today's drive, Manjit said that AMSU volunteers have seized Zeera, Kaju, Elaichi and Asafoetida (hing) packets from M/s Hukmichand Chandanmall Bagda (License number 11611009000053) .
The tollfree number of CAF&PD responded switched off when AMSU volunteers tried to give information about the incident to the Department, he said.
