Objection rings loud against ring road

Staring at the grim prospect of losing their household land and properties because of the the proposed Imphal ring road, affected villagers of Tharon to Lanthung of Thangmeiband warned that intense forms of agitation would be launched unless the proposed ring road is scrapped.
The affected villagers also staged a sit-in protest against the proposed Imphal ring road today at Langol Tarung village playground under the aegis of the JAC against the Proposed Imphal Ring Road.
The sit-in was held from 11am till 2pm.According to co-convenor of the JAC, Athuan Abonmai, 6-7 kms stretch of human settlement areas between Tharon and Lanthung would be affected by the ring road.
Those residents along the road would be badly affected by the ring road construction.
He said that informed and prior consent of the people to be affected by the project was not obtained by the Government.
Educational institutions, churches and even cemetery of the villages would be affected by the ring road.
As such, the Government should review the proposed ring road construction in the interest of the people, he said.
Members and representatives of Langol Tarung Village Authority, Langol Tarung Village Women Society, Youth Club and the JAC concerned took part in the sit-in-protest.
