International Observation Committee on Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP) and Meetei National Front (MNF) in association with various other organisations will observe the 228th anniversary of Puya Mei Thaba (burning of ancient chronicles) at Kangla and THAU ground on January 13 .
MEELAL vice-president Moirangthem Naokhamba said that the observance would be held in association with Umanglai Kanba Apunba Lup (UKAL), Maheiroi Enat Kanba Apunba Lup (MEEKAL), All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association, Manipur State Shumang Leela Council (MSSLC), United Manipuri Muslim Women Development Organisation and other organisations.
Saying that the morning session of the observance would be held at Kangla, Naokhamba added that MSSLC's shumang leela play, 'Kangleipakta 1709' would be presented at THAU ground in the evening.
Different artistes would present folk songs at the same venue, he added.
Contending that all the students of the State would wear black badge from January 13-15 in protest against burning of ancient Manipuri chronicles known as Puya during the reign of king Pamheiba (Garib Niwaj), the MEELAL vice-president said that the day would be observed in Canada and Bangladesh as well.
On the otherhand, Meetei delegates from Myanmar would take part in the observance to be held in Imphal, he added.
MEEKAL publicity secretary Herojit Mangang said that MEEKAL would work together with ICOP as a single body in observing the day.
