Manipur Medical Council set to start functioning

Manipur Medical Council (MMC) which has been lying non-functional ever since its formation on May 12, 2012 under Manipur Medical Council Act, 2009 (Manipur Act No 4 of 2012) in the Assembly House is all set to start functioning effectively.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club in this regard, Dr Karam Lokendro, Registrar of MMC said the council which is situated inside the complex of Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat is now equipped with required members to start functioning effectively, while adding one could obtain detailed information of the council through its official website www.manipurmedicalcouncil.org.
He confided that the council would look after matters concerning registration of medical practitioners; maintenance of State Medical Register; regulation of professional conduct and code of ethics of medical practitioners; taking up of disciplinary action against medical practitioners based on complaints filed by public; protection of rights of medical practitioners and several others.
Maintaining that a Medical Ethics Committee under the council has been formed with Dr W Motilal Singh, Dr Kh Palin; Dr Y Ibetombi; Dr MA Sattar and Dr L Ranjit as its chairman, convener and members respectively, he asserted that the committee would look after ethical issues, code of ethics and professional conducts of registered medical practitioners.
Another committee under the supervision of the president of the council has been also constituted with Dr Th Dhabali as its chairman, Dr Akoijam Joy as convenr, Dr H Lokhendro as member and Dr Karam Lokendro as ex-officio member.
The committee will frame rule concerning with Guideline of CME & Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education, he said.
Stating that several other committees namely Prevention of Quackery Committee and Public Relation Committee have been also formed to facilitate smooth functioning of the council, he appealed to those MBBS students who are undergoing interns and practical training courses in medical institutions to register with the council through its official website.
