Kangpokpi, November 25 2014:
Expressing displeasure over state government's failure to respond to its representation submitted on November 12, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) led by Emboi Serto today announced that it will call 12-hr total bandh in the state from 6 am to 6 pm on November 27 .
Lashing out at the state Government, ATSUM supremo Emboi Serto said that the issues raised by the student body are its old demands, but they are yet to be acted upon in accordance with the number of MoUs signed with the Government repented by Chief Minister, other Ministers and bureaucrats during the last 8 years.
"ATSUM has been patient enough to wait for 8 years, we would like to know frankly when our demands will be looked into", continued Emboi while adding that 'the Government must respect the sentiments of the neglected tribal people if at all we have to live together' .
ATSUM supremo appealed to the tribal people to abstain from the Sangai Festival for the day to show their dissatisfaction.
Expounding that ATSUM is not an organization which is synonymous with bandhs and blockades, Emboi Serto asserted that 'to live together, we also need to share together' .
Urging other communities to understand and respect the sentiments of tribal people, ATSUM supremo cautioned that after consultation, ATSUM will be compelled to take up the issue at higher levels and other forms of protests.
