Awareness programme on Govt schemes held

A one-day awareness programme on Government schemes and basic legal knowledge was held today at the office of United Muslim Organisation, Yairipok Tulihal.
The programme was jointly organised by the Control Arms Foundation of India (CAFI), Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA), India, Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network, Yairipok Thambalnu Women Group and Top Chingtha Nupi Lup.
The programme was presided by social worker Md Alam Azad, former Tulihal Educated Association president Md Abdul Kalam, All Yairipok Meira Paibi Lup president Maibam Ibetombi and women leader Thaba as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Delivering the keynote address of the awareness programme, A Majaibungo Meetei, Programme officer, CAFI informed that the programme was conducted under the aegis of Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection, European Commission (EUC) .
Identifying Manipur among the arm conflict zones of the Nation, EUC has given assistance to women victims of the State through its North East Women's Humanitarian assistance project.
The awareness programme would impart the basic knowledge of the Government schemes to the masses, Majiabungo added.
The EUC project is being taken up at three different North Eastern States - Manipur, Assam and Tripura by CAFI, ADRA India and Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network.
Speaking at the occasion, Control Arms Foundation of India protection officer Wahengbam Joykumar elaborated on the varied schemes launched and implemented by the Government.
According to Wahengbam Joykumar, lack of awareness on such schemes among the citizens of the State is the basic reason why these schemes could not reach the people.
