Kangpokpi, November 25 2014:
To protest alleged Govt's failure to fulfil its demands, the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) led by Emboi Serto has announced that it would impose 12 hrs total bandh in the State from 6 am till 6 pm of November 27 .
ATSUM president Emboi Serto said that the issues raised by the tribal students' body are not new.
But the MoUs signed with the Govt since many years back have not been fulfilled till date.
"ATSUM has been patient enough and if the Government thinks that 8 years is not enough than we would like to know frankly when our demands will be look into", Emboi said.
"ATSUM understands that there are limitations on the part of the Govt but we want the Government also to respect the sentiments of the neglected tribal people if at all we have to live together," he said.
He also appealed to the tribal people to refrain from attending the Sangai festival for the day to show their dissatisfaction.
Saying that ATSUM is not an organization which is synonymous with bandhs and blockades, Emboi Serto asserted that to live together, the need to share together also arises.
Urging other communities to understand and respect the sentiments of tribal people, ATSUM president cautioned that it would be compelled to take up the issue in the higher level if the demands are not met at the earliest.
