Ukhrul, February 21 2023:
Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba has explained that not a single G-20 event was held at Ukhrul despite having the potential to attract the eyes of the visitors due to the extremely bad road condition.
He gave the reason while attending the inauguration ceremony of Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long ( TNWL) multi-purpose hall, today.
The pitiable road condition is the primary reason why Ukhrul wasn't given the opportunity to host the high profile event, stated the MP.
"Ukhrul, though known for scenic beauty with rich flora and fauna, lacks good road connectivity," he said.
Saying that the construction of Imphal-Ukhrul road has been impeded by different forms of complaints lodged either by individuals or groups, the Rajya Sabha MP appealed to all the complainants to let the work progress "as misunderstanding, if any, can be settled through dialogue."

"Dissension won't bring any solution," he said and added that cooperation of all stakeholders and the public is needed to bring uniform development in the State.
He also appealed to all to support the War on Drugs campaign of the State.
TNWL president SA Ramnganing said that the Tangkhul community fully supports the War on Drug campaign.
He apprised the Rajya Sabha MP about the alleged occupation of some Tangkhul villages by Assam Rifles and violation of their customary land rights.
They occupy public buildings and school buildings to house security personnel, he claimed.
Saying that no initiatives have been taken up by the State to redress their grievances, SA Ramnganing appealed to Leishemba Sanajaoba to apprise the Central leaders of the developing situation.
He, nonetheless, expressed gratitude to the MP and Ukhrul DC for extending financial support to complete the TNWL hall.
Meanwhile, Ukhrul DC Krishna Kumar said some of the problems the district is facing are related to water availability, highway construction and other developmental activities.
He appealed to the Headmen and CSOs of Ukhrul to play a central role in preventing deforestation and poppy cultivation.
Cultural items were also held as a part of the programme.
The inauguration programme was also attended by Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) president David K' Shimray and several Tangkhul leaders.
