Senapati, February 21 2023:
Incensed Naga People's Organization (NPO) and various other organisations have strongly condemned the burning of an excavator at HIT, Mayangkhang.
In a release, NPO expressed strong resentment that unknown persons set of fire an excavator (poclain) on February 20 around 7 pm at HIT, Mayangkhang.
"Such anti-development activity perpetrated by any individual or organisation is unacceptable.
Development is the mantra word in the society and all look towards it for faster-pace of development in any sphere of the society.
When there are developmental works/projects taking place in the area, detrimental actions follow and when there is none, people complaint.
The mindset and approach of such people are at its worst," NPO said.
It strongly condemned "the heinous and diabolic plot to derail developmental work in the land" by resorting to create chaos and fear psychosis amongst the public and the contractual workers, adding that such act "shall in no way be tolerated".
The NPO said, "Developmental works and projects are not the plates to fit the palate of the lethargic ones who want to ransom collective development.
Further deterrence and disturbances in any developmental works/projects within the district, the civil organisations of the district shall act sternly".
While demanding any individual or organisations responsible for the act must own up, NPO appealed to the law enforcement agencies to nab the culprit(s) and award befitting punishment.
On the other hand, M Ningthoupham Village Authority strongly condemned torching of the excavator that belonged to Keystone Company and used in the construction of the HIT at M Ningthoupham.
Village chief BK John stated that such act of disturbance should be condemned by all sensible citizens.
Any individual/organisation involved in the act should own up and give the reason for their act, he added.
Thangal Chiefs' Association also condemned the burning of the excavator and categorically stated that no individuals or group has the right to stop or create any fear towards any developmental projects.
While the government under the leadership of chief minister N Biren has been making efforts for uniform development in the state, the act of arson will hamper the development project, the association said.
It then asked the individual or group involved to shun violence and sit across the table to amicably solve any misunderstanding through dialogue.
In the meantime, the chiefs' body called for public cooperation and also urged the "authority" to award befitting punishment to those involved in causing damage to the excavator.
Thangal Union also condemned burning of the excavator and termed such heinous attack as ruthless disregard for developmental projects and the rule of law.
"The incident has caused panic and distress in the mind of the general public," stated the Union.
"No words are strong enough to condemn the cowardly attack for selfish motives and disregard for the developmental projects in the district.
No individual or organisation should act in impulsive manner and draw violence to solve the misunderstanding.
Instead, people must reiterate that Indian Institute of Information and Technology (HIT) is an asset for Manipur as well as for the North East people, said the union and also expressed solidarity with the contractors.
It also urged authority concerned to trace and nab the perpetrators and award them befitting punishment at the earliest.
