CM condemns Nonganba's murder

Terming it as an act of barbarism and extreme brutality, Chief Minister N Biren today condemned the murder of Akoijam Nonganba alias Aging on the floor of the State Assembly today.
Responding to a call attention motion raised by MLA K Ranjit, Chief Minister N Biren who is also in charge of Home Department said that a suo moto case was registered immediately after receiving information about the murder.
One Moses Gangmei who was allegedly involved in the murder was arrested from Senapati.
Moses Gangmei is said to be a self-styled deputy kilonser of NSCN-IM.
However, he has not been arrested yet, Biren said.
Nonganba's girlfriend Thokchom Sonia has also been pulled up in connection with the murder.
Apart from examining footages captured in CCTV cameras installed along Imphal-Dimapur highway, statements of the two arrested accused have been recorded.
As one suspected vehicle could not be identified, security agencies have been working to identify the particular vehicle with the help of experts from Delhi, Biren said.
Moreover, a special investigation team (SIT) led by a DSP has been constituted to arrest NSCN-IM cadre Stephen who was also allegedly involved in the murder.
The State Government would not hesitate to take help from NIA, if necessary, to crack the case, he added.
Earlier, raising the call attention motion, K Ranjit said that Sonia's car (Swift), documents related to Sonia and Nonganba's identification documents were found at the spot where he was found dead.
There were some reports which said that Nonganba was bludgeoned to death with a heavy object like a boulder or club.
There were also some other reports which said that Nonganba was killed somewhere before the dead body was dumped there, Ranjit said.
He then asked what was the connection of NSCN-IM to the murder, what was the role of Sonia and whether NSCN-IM cadre Stephen who was allegedly involved in the murder had been arrested or not.
