CM states stand on Nonganba murder case

Chief minister N Biren informed the state legislative assembly on Tuesday that the police are investigating the murder case of Akoijam Nonganba and the government will seek help from NIA or CBI if the situation demands.
Responding to a calling attention motion moved by Congress MLA K Ranjit, who termed the murder case as an incident having potential to disrupt the law and order situation of the state, the CM said that the police have registered a case immediately after the incident.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by SP Kangpokpi has been been formed and consequently, one Moses Golmei from Senapati district was arrested.
Later, Thokchom Sonia, who went out with the victim, was also arrested on February 17.Police have got several leads following their disclosure and CCTV footages are being examined.
Efforts are on to identify a vehicle, which could be used in carrying out the crime, with help of experts from Delhi.
Manhunt for another suspect named Stephen, a cadre of NSCN-IM is also underway, he said.
The CM, however, hastened to add that as of now, there is no evidence of organisational involvement of NSCN-IM.
Police will disclose information which could be shared to the public, from time to time, he said while expressing confidence in the capability of police in solv ing the case.
However, the government is open to seek help from other investigat ing agencies if the situation demands, he added.
