Minister Susindro scans water supply schemes in Ukhrul

In the backdrop of scarcity of water hitting hard Ukhrul denizens, PHE minister L Susindro on Monday visited PHED Ukhrul Division office, took stock of the water level of Nungshang River and assessed condition of Shirui water reservoir, on Monday.
The minister was accom panied by PHED secretary Kheta Berda, PHED Ukhrul EE Themreishang Mareh and other department officials during the inspection visits.
At the PHED warehouse, the minister instructed officials concerned to properly store and maintain pipes and materials of PHED office.
He also had brief interaction with villagers of Shirui and assured to provide pipes for use of excess water of the Shirui water reservoir for irrigation of the fields.
The minister also visited the office of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) where he met MLA Ram Muivah and TNL president David K Shimray and discussed issues related to scarcity of water during dry season in Ukhrul district.
Minister Susindro also informed that the government is planning to launch a Rs 100 crore project funded by National Development Bank (NDB) at Langdang and appealed to the villagers to extend cooperation to the government's initiative.
While stating that a dam would be constructed under the said project, he appealed to the villagers not to demand land compensation as the project has no funds for compensation and the government will not be in a position to provide the same.
While appealing to the people of Ukhrul to refrain from cutting down trees as it impacts the environment and is the main reason for scarcity of water, minister Susindro urged the villagers to help in the all constructive projects taken up by the government for the welfare of the people.
The minister also said that drilling machine has been brought to put a water sipper having capacity of 3000 litres per hour.
Two more water pumps will soon be drilled to enhance water storage capacity in Ukhrul area.
