Clubs, locals inspect course of Leimakhong river

Members of local clubs and organisations of 10 villages along with locals inspected the course and condition of the Leimakhong river from Waroiching till Nambol River and Sadu Chiru waterfall, which is the source of Leimakhong and Nambol rivers.
The inspection had representatives of clubs and residents of Kangmong, Kabowakching, Khajiri Mamang & Maning, Mongjing, Nambol Awang, Nambol Makha, Kongkham Awang, Kongkham Makha, Naorem and Ishok.
Speaking to media persons in this regard, one Maisnam Suresh Luwang informed that the river is the main source of water for over 30,000 people of 10 villages.
He urged the people settling along the banks and operating resorts not to dump garbage into the river.
While noting that some people, who are engaged in supply of water through private tankers, are diverting water of the riven for business purposes thereby disrupting the flow to Nambol river, he urged all concerned not to construct artificial barriers in the river considering the hardships such practices could cause to thousands of people.
While pointing out that many a lives would be at risk in case of outbreak of major lire due to shortage of water, he urged the government and department concerned to swing into action to address the problem arising out of water crisis.
