Training on fish breeding, seed production held

ICAR, Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Aquaculture Division, Mumbai in collaboration with Department of Fisheries organised a three-day skill development programme on "Fish breeding and seed production" for fish farmers of Imphal West district at Yurembam village from February 13 to 15 .
In a release, ICAR-C1-FE, Mumbai scientist Dr Thongam Ibemcha Chanu informed that the programme conducted under the supervision of Head of the Division Dr Sukham Munilkumar was participated by 50 farmers including one fisheries society (Yurembam Pisciculture Co-operative Society having 34 members).
The theme of the training was to skill the breeder from traditional Happa breeding technology to improvised circular hatchery technology for large scale fish seed production to meet the requirement at district level as well as the state, Dr Ibemcha informed.
As a part of the training programme, an extension bulletin on "Induced breeding of Indian major carp and minor carps" in English was also released along with three leaflets on three-tier larval rearing system of magur, breeding and seed production of Pengba and broodstock development and reproduction of magur.
During the programme, experts elaborated on various measures to be taken while selecting the brooders, production of quality seed, feeding regime and use of inducing hormone in different species with proper dose.
The training programme also had distribution of inputs like feed, kits, fish and training materials.
