Imphal, October 20 2012:
Noted singer Ranbir Thouna's North East leg of 'Save Loktak Lake' campaign will be kick-started by London Olympics bronze medallist MC Mary Kom in Guwahati in December.
Ranbir Thouna's endeavour to preserve the largest fresh water lake in the North East region through musical campaign started in November 2008 and has covered a number of north and south Indian cities.
The crooner, whose album 'Piano from the unknown valley' consisting 12 songs was recently launched by 'Times Music', said he draws his inspiration to sustain the campaign from the works of eminent writer and princess (late) MK Binodini Devi.
"Now we will begin our northeast leg campaign in Guwahati in which Olympic bronze medallist MC Mary Kom will open it," said Ranbir, singer, composer and music director.
"A week back, I narrated the objectives of my ongoing musical campaign to her (Mary) and I also requested her to open its northeast leg in Guwahati.
She lauded my efforts and agreed to kick off the Guwahati show," he said.
Two of his self-composed songs presented in the earlier shows are dedicated to Loktak Lake, the livelihood source of thousands of people living in the three valley districts of Bishnupur, Thoubal and Imphal West "My ongoing campaign is to spread awareness among the people of the nation about the conservation of the 300 square kilometre lake whose condition is deteriorating owing to different factors like siltation, pollution and commissioning of a hydel power project," said the singer.
Stating that his earlier shows had a number of music lovers and environmentalists turning up to watch the musical concerts, he said, "My success side of the campaign was the people's zeal to know more about the Loktak and their passion to save it" .
"As part of it, pamphlets on the lake's present status were also distributed at various public places" .
Besides Ranbir, other eminent singers of the state including Naba volcano, Madhuri, Apao and Sori Senjam also presented their numbers in two of the shows held in Bangalore in April last year.
