Manipur Police sports Club (MPSC) suffered a huge setback in its pursuit to claim the title of the 7th Manipur State League football tournament as TRAU, Kwakeithel carved out a 2-1 victory in the teams' ninth match played today at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium.
A win today would have cemented its position at the top of the points table on 22 points, two more than closest rivals AIM and SSU.
but the loss means the latter two are now joint favourites to wrest the crown on the last day of the competition.
TRAU, on the otherhand, have climbed to fifth position on 17 points, same as NEROCA but the latter having superior goal average.
The penultimate match for both MPSC and TRAU began with M Manglemba slamming home the opening goal in the 36th minute and Th Premkanta extending the advantage in the 56th minute.
Even though veteran striker I Nilakumar pulled back one in the 58th minute, TRAU defenders held on to the slender lead and emerged victorious.
