Imphal, June 02 2012:
MPP advisor and former MLA O Joy has remarked that the BJP State unit's recent move to lure some MPP leaders within its fold in order to build up its own strength is rather surprising.
Reacting to the claim of BJP leaders that some leaders of MPP and NCP would be leaving their parent parties and join BJP very soon, O Joy asserted that everyone must understand there are many leaders in MPP who don't view politics as some business enterprise.
After the merger of Manipur into the Indian Union and in the aftermath of Hunger Marchers' Day of August 27, 1965, Congress party unleased a long spell of misrule in the State.
This sowed the seeds for birth of MPP.
In the last 65 years, regional imbalance has cropped up among the North Eastern States.
Moreover Manipur has been subjected to economic exploitation and political domination which have resulted in conflict situation and identity crisis of very serious nature.
Even though MPP is a small regional party, it has been working consistently in the interest of regional aspirations.
MPP and NCP are friendly parties and MPP has no bad feelings against BJP, Joy said.
Accusing big national parties of bringing down MPP Governments when it came to power on three occasions in 1972, 1974 and 1990, Joy alleged that such destabilising ploys are the nature and tradition of the big parties.
BJP is still following the same ploys targeting MPP and other parties.
Saying that BJP leaders are respected at the highest level, Joy asserted that there are many political leaders in MPP who would never trade their principle and loyalty for some benefits.
