Ukhrul, May 17 2017:
Thanks to the non-stop drizzle in the past few days, all the three celebration venues (Shirui Vangayan, Bakshi ground, TNL ground) of the Shirui Lily Festival, Ukhrul have been completely filled with slushy mud.
Though this has not obviously dampened the spirit of the visitors who continue to arrive by busloads and other light vehicles, it has severely inconvenienced the movement of the people in the town and at Shirui village and beyond towards Phangrei.
The dilapidated road conditions have only made things worse and this has not missed the eyes and observations of the visitors.
Adding to the inconvenience of the people, particularly the visitors, are the numerous taxi drivers and drivers of other vehicles, who do not seem to give a thought to the plight of the pedestrians, splashing them with the muddy water whenever they pass them.

Speaking to this correspondent, a driver said that Ukhrul does not have any traffic regulation system, leading to road jams and severely inconveniencing the public.
Moreover the local drivers do not seem to have any traffic sense, he said.
Traffic jam has become the order of the day leaving many commuters in the lurch.
Adding to the mud, slush and rain is the way in which vehicles are haphazardly parked on the road sides, leading to more traffic congestion.
According to a report from Shirui village, a university student who went out for trekking to Shirui Kashong yesterday fell sick, but the villagers could not transport her immediately to the hospital as there was no mobile ambulance available at that time.
