HC invites objections from 7 MLAs

A single bench of the High Court of Manipur has urged all the counsels of the seven 'defected' Congress MLAs to file any objection by tomorrow over the case filed to restrain them from entering Manipur Legislative Assembly for Rajya Sabha election as well as to disqualify them under the Tenth Schedule.
The direction was given by Justice Kh Nobin Single of the High Court of Manipur after the hearing the miscellaneous case filed by Congress MLAs.
The Congress MLA have prayed that the seven MLAs be restrained from entering the Assembly on the charge that they have changed sides and are supporting the BJP led Government.
The High Court today heard the submission of senior Advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for the Congress MLAs, HS Paonam senior Advocate appearing for the respondents and Chittaranjan counsel appearing for the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly and Secretary of Manipur Legislative Assembly.
After having heard the submission of counsels appearing for both parties, the Court said that the application can be listed on June 5 for disposal so that the counsels appearing for the respondents will have the opportunity to go through them.
Court also mentioned that if the counsels appearing for the respondent MLAs wish to file any objection, it can be done so by tomorrow June 4.Mention may be made that the miscellaneous case was filed yesterday by Congress MLAs against the 7 defected MLAs, who were elected on Congress ticket but are charged of backing the BJP led collation Government.
The Congress MLAs have petitioned that they be barred from entering Manipur legislative assembly for the Rajya Sabha election and to be disqualified under the Tenth Schedule.
Congress MLAs who filed the petitions include K Meghachandra against MLA Ngamthang Haokip of Saitu AC, MLA O Henry against MLA Ksh Biren of Lamlai AC, MLA K Govindas against MLA Paonam Brojen of Wangjing Tentha, MLA DD Thaisii against MLA Y Surchandra of Kakching AC, MLA Kh Joykisan against MLA Sanasam Bira of Kumbi AC, MLA O Surjakumar against MLA O Lukhoi of Wangoi AC and MLA K Ranjit against MLA Ginsuanhau of Singhat AC.
Mention also be made that the same Court on May 28 granted time to file counter affidavit to the seven MLAs and listed the matter on June 10 for further hearing.
