Imphal, June 03 2020:
The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council has expressed disappointment over the manner in which quarantine centres are being handled by the State Government.
According to a statement, CPI alleged health workers, doctors, volunteers, Indian Red Cross Society have claimed that COVID 19 cases in the State are increasing because of the Government's mismanagement.
Stranded Manipuris who have arrived from red and orange zones after reaching Jiribam Railway Station should have been sent to a special quarantined centre instead of sending them to their respective community quarantined centres at their districts, it said while adding that district hospitals do not have the required infrastructure to handle positive cases.
It is said that the COVID-19 virus can survive for at least 12 hours, so there is high chance of the infection being spread when an infected person shares a toilet or kitchen, it said.
WHO guidelines should be followed while maintaining these quarantine centres.
Government should also provide enough PPE suits as well as monetary assistance to these quarantine centres, it said.
When so many organizations and individuals have donated at the COVID-19 relief fund why inmates have to sleep on the floor, it questioned.
If the Government is honest about combating COVID-19 then they should follow the guidelines issued by WHO and Indian Council of Medical Research with constant monitoring of the quarantine centres.
The Chief Minister and the Health Minister along with the Chief Secretary should look into the complaints that people who have arrived from red zones are not getting tested on time, it added.
