Community gears up for good Samaritan work in Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, June 03 2020:
Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen called for community participation in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic while the Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi District (KIKD) also appealed for the same and the community in response has started gearing up to perform good Samaritan work to help the stranded returnees who are under surveillance at the various Institutional Quarantine Centres (IQC) in the District.
Tonglen Khongsai, social worker and Chief of L Loujol in collaboration with Konghom Area Youth Development Union (KAYDU), visited two Institutional Quarantine Centres, KGBV Ekou Mulam and Eco-Tourism Park, Thangal Surung in Saikul area and donated huge quantity of essential commodities for the returnees.
Apart from the L Loujol village chief and leaders of KAYDU, Lhungjang Christian Church and various other likeminded individuals and groups also contributed to the IQCs in the area.
Thangal Surung village Chief also provided food and meat curry to all the inmates of the IQC at Eco Tourism Park in his village.
A team of Saikul Hill Town Churches Fellowship also visited IQC set up in Transit Hostel, Saikul yesterday and provided packed food (pork and beef) to all the inmates and also the frontline workers while praying for their health and services.
Members Tungjoy Village Council also donated huge quantity of fresh vegetables to the Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi for the inmates staying in various Institutional Quarantine Centres in the district.
It may be mentioned that Tungjoy village had recently been in the news for its exemplary and much appreciated idea of constructing Quarantine Cottages in a picturesque hill to accommodate the returnees in a safe place, following discussions among all stakeholders under the aegis of the village council.
Meanwhile, InSIDE North East also continued extending its helping hand by reaching out to 24 less fortunate families in Kangpokpi district today with various essential commodities.
The non-profit organization also arranged the evacuation of 90 stranded people from Shillong.
Additionally, contributions continue to pour in everyday from different philanthropists toward the COVID-19 Emergency Food Kiosk initiated by ADC Sadar Hills for the returnees at the District Screening Centre at Brig M Thomas Ground, Kangpokpi DHQs.
