Imphal, January 14 2022:
The People's Action for National Democratic Movement (PANDM) has decried the extension of the controversial Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) 1958 for a year and the petition challenging the implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in Manipur.
In a statement, PANDM asked why the State Government issued a notification extending AFSPA by another year in contradiction to the claim of improved law and order situation in the State.
PANDM celebrated its 12th foundation yesterday at Uripok.
The function was graced by UCM president Joy-chandra Konthoujam, KANGLAMEI secretary Irungbam Bimola, KIL president RK Sanahanbi, IPSA president Birjit Tourangbam, IPAK president Ksh Somorendro, ACOAM-Lup president Sanjit Soraisam, CLK president Ch Pakpi Chanu, KSA president Bidyananda Sukham and UCM consultant H Ibotombi Khuman as presidium members.
At the observation, PANDM president Yum-namcha Dilipkumar said that the Central and the State Governments must face the writ petition filed by one Amra Bangali, a political organisation based in Kolkata, challenging the implementation of ILPS in Manipur to the Supreme Court with utmost seriousness .
He continued that PAN-DM is all set to meet any challenges the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) might bring on the people of the State.
Saying that the implementation of railway projects in Manipur is another cause of concern, Dilipkumar maintained that the inauguration of Jiribam-Agartala Express has compounded the worries.
Continuing that the ILPS implemented in Manipur is ineffective in checking the entry of outsiders effectively, PANDM president urged the State Government to formulate proper guidelines to save the indigenes of Manipur and its lands from being overwhelmed by the non locals.
He further urged the State Government to establish a Manipur State Population Commission and update the web portal launched to issue Inner Line Permit to better maintain the data of non locals staying in Manipur.
UCM president Joychandra urged the Government to immediately stop the fencing works at the Indo-Myanmar border.
