Imphal, January 14 2022:
The All Manipur Road Transport Driver and Motor Workers' Union (AMRT&MWU) observed the 33rd Drivers' Day at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, today.

The union also presented simple gifts to select elders.
Speaking at the function, AMRT&MWU general secretary Maimom Anil stated that Drivers' Day is being observed to commemorate the historic drivers' protest against the frequent harassment and discrimination at Koirengei old airfield on January 14, 1990 .
He continued that drivers risk their lives even though they have to face dreadful consequences occasionally for the wellbeing of the masses.
Saying that there are still hostile areas along the Imphal-Jiribam road though two bridges have been inaugurated recently, Anil urged the State Government to look into the matter at the earliest.
Manipur Drivers' Association (MDA) also observed the day at Moidangpok Keithelmanbi.
