Six more Omicron cases detected, all discharged

Six more cases of Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 have been detected in the State, taking the total number of Omicron cases to seven.
Notably, the first Omicron case in the State was detected on December 27 after a man from Imphal West tested positive for the Covid variant after he returned from Tanzania.
All the six individuals who had been tested positive for Omicron have completed their mandatory isolation and have been discharged with RT-PCR negative reports, informed a press release issued by Health Director Dr K Rajo.
Of the six new cases of Omicron, one is a female returnee from a foreign country and another male was a visitor to the State.
The others are their close contacts.
The visitor has already left the State.
The Health Director also advised the public to strictly adhere to Covid appropriate behaviours and get vaccinated for Covid-19 .
Meanwhile, the State logged 7.1 per cent positivity rate during the last 24 hours as 116 samples out of 1,643 tested for Covid-19 were confirmed positive.
According to a bulletin issued by Additional Director (Health) and Covid-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 116 persons including four CAPF personnel were tested positive at JNIMS (14) and other testing centres (102) .
The civilians who have been tested positive are residents of Imphal East (22), Imphal West (40), Thoubal (3), Bishnupur (3), Kakching (4), Kangpokpi (3), Tengnoupal (6), Ukhrul (1), Chandel (2) and Churachandpur (28) .
Kamjong district recorded the highest daily positivity rate at 40 per cent (2 positive out of 5 tested) followed by Tengnoupal 31.6 per cent (6 out of 19), Churachandpur 22.6 per cent (28 out of 124) and Kakching 11.6 per cent (5 out of 43) .
Following recovery, 29 Covid-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from home isolation (17), RIMS (1), JNIMS (1) and CCCs (10) .
The cumulative number of Covid-19 positive cases in the State has reached 1,26,821 (general population 1,22,183 and Central security personnel 4,638) .
This figure includes 944 active cases (general population 748 and Central security personnel 196) and 1,23,865 recovered cases (general population 1,19,428 and Central security personnel 4,437) .
Whereas the death toll remains unchanged at 2012 as there was no report of Covid related death during the last 24 hours, the recovery rate stands at 97.67 per cent.
A total of 256 D-type oxygen cylinders and 56 B-type oxygen cylinders were made available to different health facilities of the State yesterday.
Taking into account 7112 doses administered yesterday, the cumulative number of Covid vaccine doses administered in the State has risen to 23,77,616 (first dose 13,56,905 and second dose 10,16,486 and precautionary dose 4225) .
Till Thursday, 43.42 per cent of the State's total eligible population has been given the second dose of Covid vaccine while 57.37 per cent has received the first dose.
