IED found; one held with firearms

Imphal, January 14 2022:
Events security measures have been beefed up in view of the upcoming Republic Day celebration and 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election, an IED was found in Kakching district.
The IED was found planted near JNV Sandumba Achouba, west of Indo-Burma Sugnu road in Kakching Khunou Umathel under Waikhong police station around 7 pm Saturday.
Police bomb disposal squad safely defused the IED weighing around 7 kg.
Meanwhile, a combined team of Imphal West district police commando and 16 Assam Rifles arrested an active cadre of KNF (P) identified as Thangneo Kipgen alias Ricky (35), son of (L) Mangkholin Kipgen of S Kholmun village, Kangpokpi district from Keithelmanbi Bazar on Friday.
According to reports, the combined team arrested the KNF (P) cadre with one 9mm pistol and one mobile handset around 7:15 pm.
During interrogation, Thangneo disclosed that he joined KNF (P) in the year 2007 through one self-styled lance corporal Hopson from Awa Sangphung, Kangpokpi district and received basic military training at Haipi Jungle for three months and was allotted Army No 166 .
He further revealed of working under the command of one self-styled sergeant major Micheal and he extorted money from the trucks and buses plying on NH-37 under his command.
The arrested cadre and seized items have been handed over to Patsoi police station for further necessary legal action.
As part of the pre-emptive measures, Imphal West district police led by DSP (Commando) Y Kishorchand carried out search operation in Heibongpokpi area under Lamsang police station on Friday morning.
No arrest or detention were made during the operation.
Later around 4 pm, Imphal West district police led Commando OC inspector P Achouba conducted search operation at Thangal Bazar area during which nine people were detained and handed over to City PS for further verification.
All of them were released later on.
In Imphal East district, a police team led by Commando 2nd OC Inspector Sanju conducted search operation in Bamon Kampu, Keirao and Urup Arapti area.
There is no report of any detention or arrest made during the operation.
